Mensaje a nuestros colegas estadounidenses/ Miguel Barnet • La Habana

Nosotros, los escritores y artistas cubanos, que también amamos la justicia y la paz, les expresamos a través de este mensaje nuestro más profundo agradecimiento por su solidaridad con la causa de los cinco cubanos encarcelados ilegalmente en cárceles de los ESTADOS UNIDOS. Estamos convencidos de que la carta que enviaron al Presidente Barack Obama ha contribuido a romper el ultrajante silencio que pretende ocultar la verdad sobre esta noble causa. Nuestros compatriotas han cumplido en estos días doce largos y tortuosos años de prisión sólo por proteger a su país de actos terroristas. Como bien expresan en su carta los Cinco no cometieron ningún crimen contra el gobierno de los ESTADOS UNIDOS ni sus acciones constituyeron amenaza alguna para su estabilidad. La Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) y la organización de jóvenes escritores y artistas cubanos (AHS), agradecen ese gesto a Danny Glover, Ed Asner, Susan Sarandon, Oliver Stone, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Pete Seeger, Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, por sólo mencionar algunos entre muchos que han firmado esta carta. Esperamos que el Presidente Obama tenga la cordura y el valor de ejercer su autoridad presidencial para que nuestros cinco hermanos puedan regresar a su país, a sus hogares y a sus familias. Sabemos que ustedes representan los más puros sentimientos del pueblo de ESTADOS UNIDOS a favor de la justicia y la paz. ............................................................................................................

Letter to our colleagues of the United States We, the Cuban artists and writers, who also love justice and peace, want to convey to you in this letter our deepest appreciation for the solidarity you have expressed whith the "Cuban Five" who are illegally confined in United States prisons. We are convinced that the letter you have written to President Barack Obama has contributed to break the outrageous silence that pretends to hide the truth of this noble cause. On this anniversary our compatriots have suffered twelve large and tortuous years of imprisonment for protecting their mother country from acts of terrorism. As was properly expressed in your letter the "Cuban Five" did not commit any crime against the United States government, nor were these actions a threat to its stability. The Cuban Artists and Writers Union (UNEAC) and the organization of young Cuban Artists and Writers (AHS) appreciate this gesture by Danny Glover, Ed Asner, Susan Sarandon, Oliver Stone, Pete Seeger, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore and many others who also signed this letter, just to name a few. We hope that President Obama has both the wisdom and the courage to exercise his presidential authority and to free them, so our five Brothers can return to their country and to their homes and families. We know that you represent the purest intentions of the American people for justice and peace.
